Show image/video when source is not active

I'm trying to do this funny idea of an overlay and I need to have an image/video appear when a source is not active. I know I can put an image or a video behind the source, but if I use a video, it would play audio even if it is not visible. I'm also using a script to delay when the source is visible which I could apply to my idea but that would mean the video would play audio if the source was active and visible. I'd also have to make multiple instances of the script which feels like a dirty workaround.

Edit: Forgot to note but the script hides the video but doesn't toggle the visibility. So if I swapped sources, I'd have to press a separate hotkey to turn off the visibility of the video
