Question / Help Should I stick to NVENC if I stream and game off the same PC?

I've used NVENC for a lot of my streams, the quality has been good for me. Then I read that NVENC is horrible and I should use x264, but it makes my games horribly choppy for the most part. And I can't seem to get a threshold of stream quality and game performance. x264's ultrafast is nigh unwatchable imo, and anything above seems to destroy performance. I've ran the bitrate from 3500 to 2000 and no avail.

I'm using:
16 gb ram
i5 6600k (not overclocked)
gtx 1070

Don't trust everything you read on the internet. Stick with nvenc. Whoever said nvenc is horrible is simply wrong. It is about as good as x264 with the veryfast preset. If your CPU power allows you to encode with a better preset, you get a small increase of quality, but if you overload your CPU with that (which it obviously does on your CPU), nvenc is the encoder of choice.
