Setting macOS Screen Capture - ISSUES

I'm an OBS newbie... trying to record full display/desktop with audio... but I am running into various issues.
When I start OBS, sometimes main window does not display... so close app, abends and restarts, window displays.
MacOS 15.5 Sequoia MacBook Pro MAX M1 2020.
Okay... so get OBS working.

Now try to set SCREEN CAPTURE display... I have MBP laptop display (at set resolution) and 2 external displays (at higher resolutions).
If OBS app opens program window on external display, assumes that display is being recorded.
Move OBS app to laptop display (intended recording source) and close app and re-open, then assumes LAPTOP display.
Yes, I could define source as LAPTOP display (another method), but then get following issue also ...

When define LAPTOP display as source, the PREVIEW scene shows red bounding box that is larger than recording section, which doesn't show FULL DISPLAY, rather a TOP LEFT portion).

When I try to fix/resolve... I always seem to have a RECORDED video size that has black spaces on side of video... etc.

How do I set OBS t o record FULL LAPTOP (or EXTERNAL) display such that OUTPUT is fixed (scaled) size?

See screenshots... external display and laptop display cases.... always seems to be issues that CANVAS (behind?) is larger than CAPTURED DESKTOP (truncated) from FULL DISPLAY DESKTOP?

What am I missing?
