Question / Help Separating Game Audio, Microphone, and Skype Call Audio (OS X)

Hello All,

I'm currently working on a setup of streaming retro gameplay with RetroArch and having a buddy join via Skype (or GoogleHangout) for co-op commentary. Based on this I'd like to have the 3 following audio tracks independently mixable:

1) Game audio coming from RetroArch
2) My buddies input from the Skype call
3) My external Microphone.

I followed this guide to set up iShowU on my macintosh: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/capture-audio-on-mac-no-soundflower.286/

This has worked well and has allowed me to effectively separate the computer output audio from my microphone. However the computer output audio comprises 1) and 2) above together. Is there any way I can completely separate 1) and 2)?

Thanks,
Keith

Only if iShowU allows for multiple virtual devices. Otherwise you'd need something like SoundFlower, Sound Siphon or LoopBack. LoopBack absolutely can do this. Sound Siphon should be able to, but I had trouble with it.

I do this.

Step 1: Get sound flower. Get a version configured for multiple devices.
Step 2: Use Audio Midi Setup to define a composite device; include two sound flowers, your mic, speaker.
Step 3: Use QJackCtl to set up routing. The program you want to record goes to one of the sound flowers and the speaker. The audio chat program goes to another sound flower and the speaker.
Step 4: OBS records 4 audio tracks.

Track 1 mixes all three sources (so you can play the movie file back).
Track 2-4 are the mic, the first sound flower, and the second sound flower.

In editing, mute the first track (video plus the mix), and treat it as a video and 3 audio tracks.
