Question / Help Separating audio in .mkv file

Hi there! I'm hoping that I might be able to see if there's a solution to a problem I encountered today.

I sometimes use OBS to record audio from an online radio stream. In the past it's worked without issue but tonight once I listened to what I recorded I had another audio file playing over the top. It looks like there's an older file playing (I see it as a source along with another source that wasn't running). I figured out how to remove it so this won't be an issue in the future.

The recording is saved as a .mkv file. Is there a way to separate the two audio files since I see that they are listed separately in the audio mixer?

If the audio is indeed recorded onto separate tracks, the quickest way would be to use a remuxing program to strip out just the applicable video/audio tracks. There's plenty of programs you could use, but one that I usually use for general use is FFMpegYAG (basically just a frontend for FFMpeg re-encoding/muxing). Here's the settings to use for just stripping the original encoded tracks:

I also just realized that you're probably talking about OBS's audio mixer, not a mixer during playback. If they were both recorded to the same audio track within OBS, then there is no way to separate them.

If you recorded both to the same audio track: No. You can make an omelet out of eggs, but you cannot make eggs out of an omelet.

in obs mixer advanced settings you can say
source A Track 1/2
source B Track 1/3
source C Track 1/4
Then you have a mixed first track with source A+B+C and 3 Separate tracks with the splitted
That's how we all use to make compilations and other from the record to cut of voice or music if we don't need them if we create a compilation with other music or a new voice over
