Question / Help Separate Audio Tracks not working

So, I followed the guide to set up separate audio tracks and it doesn't seem to be working.

My goal is to be able to have my Mic and my Game audio be on separate audio tracks on the recorded video, that can be picked up in a program like Premiere elements, and the volume adjusted accordingly.

I have gone under the output settings for Audio and set 2 tracks

I have used the mixer to tell the Game audio to be track 1, and the mic audio to track 2

While I am recording, OBS Studio SHOWS that my mic is picking up sound

On the recorded video however, my mic audio doesn't come in.

Here are the images. Am I missing something?

Media players will only play one audio track at a time.

And saving directly to mp4 isn't recommended regardless.

So what's the point of having multiple track option in OBS?

Also, I save to MP4 because it's what the editing program I use supports.

Save to MKV then remux afterwards. MP4s will NOT survive ANYTHING preventing the file from finalizing properly.

Multiple audio tracks are for editing purposes to allow you to noise isolate on a single track.

Will give that a try. Hope Premiere Elements supports MKV.

Yeah unfortunately the file format didn't make a difference. Mic audio still not showing up in the MKV file, and Premiere Elements doesn't detect MKV. Oh well.

What are you using to check your recordings?
I use Gom Player for my main media viewer, but I also use Adobe Premiere Elements 15 to check the files. In neither case is the microphone track even making it into the video, even though as stated, OBS Studio registers sound coming into the mic.

Use VLC to check your recordings.
Select each audio track from the right-click menu to check them.

Use file -> remux recordings to convert from MKV to MP4 if you need MP4 for editing.

Premiere also can have issues with multiple audio tracks in a single file. You may find you need to extract the additional audio with something like ffmpeg and import it into Premiere separately.

Well the amount of work involved there just went beyond any benefit I'd gain in that case. May as well record in Audacity and toss it in. Thanks for your help anyway.

Instead of using 1 and 2 audio tracks, use 3 audio tracks, you should check both for track 1, then check track 2 only for desktop, and lastly check track 3 only for mic.
the result you get 3 seperate audio tracks, 1 is mix, 2 is only desktop, and 3 only your mic. you can just cut the mixed one
