I made an hour long screen recording today that failed to capture any of the screen recording. The entirety of the recording shows a single still image. The audio recording was successful. Would love some help figuring out what went wrong and how to fix it.
This is the first long recording (~1 hour) that I've made on this computer. I did several test runs of just a minute or two that were all fine. I also did another short test recording after I found out that this one failed, and it was also fine.
I installed OBS fresh this week, but I did transfer various user files from my old machine (an Intel Mac) to this new machine with macOS Migration Assistant, which seemed to include OBS settings. (I was running a slightly older version of OBS on the old machine) I did tweak the settings a bit before making any recordings, such as switching from the deprecated "Display Capture" source to "macOS Screen Capture", and changing "Base (Canvas) Resolution" to match the new machine's screen resolution.
I don't know if this is helpful or not, but the still image captured in the video doesn't even seem like it's from when I was recording the video. It looks like it's from a few minutes earlier, when I launched the OBS application (The image shows my web browser, but the clock shows a time that was several minutes before I started recording)
Some of the settings I used in brief:
- Recording Quality: Indistinguishable Quality, Large File Size
- Recording Format: Matroska Video (.mkv)
- Video Encoder: Software (x264 low SPU usage preset, increases file size)
- Output (Scaled) Resolution: 1512x982
Any tips on how I can record successfully in the future??
Please let me know if any other information would be helpful in debugging.
