Question / Help screen capture slowing down my pc

Hello.

When Im using the screen capture in OBS Studio my whole pc is lagging. It goes down to 30 FPS.
For example when I start a game with the screen capture on (no streaming or recording so far) I lose 30-60 FPS.
In Bioshock Infinite it goes down from 220 FPS to 180 and in Enderal (a Skyrim total conversion) from 60 to 30.

I know I shouldnt stream or record games with the screen capture but the impact of the performance for just hooking and previewing it is just insane.
Why is the performance there so bad ?

With the game capture I can record lossless and stream at the same time almost without any problems.

Here is my hardware:

  • i7 5820k (6x 3,3GhZ)
  • 16 GB DDR4 Ram
  • EVGA GTX 980 (4 GB VRam)
  • 2x 1920x1080 screens (on the 2nd is just running one window of chrome and OBS studio)
  • Windows 7 64 Bit

I uploaded the settings of OBS here: http://imgur.com/a/XnFIT

With every other software I can record desktop without any problem.
Sometimes I need to stream my Desktop but with 30 FPS its really annoying.

How do I force VSync on the Desktop ?
Cant find anything.

Preview window is ON or OFF when you are recording?
Aero enabled?
Does your "other" recording software renders something back to the desktop?
Do you have single 'Display Capture' source in the current Scene Collection?
Refresh rate of your monitor is 60 Hz, isn't it?
Why are you need to render game in 220fps if you wanna capture it at 60?
Where is you full log file with issue?

Usually, V-sync can be adjusted in the game's menu or by driver of the video card.
You need fps limiter in the game enabled, if any.
You can use second PC with capture card to workaround issues in your streams.

Look, my PC can handle 640x512@60 without issue, my log: https://gist.github.com/ebe0b141a5db839548e1448071921f7a

Preview is of course on.
yes aero is on
No every other desktop recording software havnt so much impact on the performance like OBS ...
Yes just one display.
Yes its 60.
Cause I need so much FPS to do certain things in the game. It was just an example how much power the screen capture is wasting.
Even without and games its laggy ...

I know how to adjust vsync in games I thought I can do it with the desktop too.

Like I said I dont even record or streaming stuff yet
Its just the desktop preview thats lagging.

Log says you have bottleneck in video subsystem caused by your setup or by PC itself. Can you post full log with recording attempt (it is 'Last' from Help menu after you reopen Studio)? FPS limiter in game or V-sync required for smooth capture.
