Question / Help Scene Switching/Transitions

Ok so OBS Classic has scene switching included.
OBS Studio does not, so us mac users don't get it.
There's a plugin but that doesn't work on macs either.
But, it has the possibility to set hotkeys to switch scenes, which would kinda do the trick.
Automatic scene switching wouldn't work for me anyway since I'm streaming from the Mac but playing the games on a PC, so the Mac wouldn't be able to detect when I open, close stuff on the PC or change window focus on it.
But, I also need a way to do transitions.

I noticed there's a hotkey for transitions, and I set it, but pressing it doesn't do anything. I'm sure I'm missing something.
Because right now, what I do is, I have my transitions (external videos of alpha channel transparent transitions I made/downloaded) on the very first layer of each scene, so they show up on top of everything.

But, when I switch scenes, the new scene shows up so fast, I can see it BEFORE the transition animation even starts.
Help?

1. The Scene Switcher plugin is now bundled with OBS Studio, as of version 0.16.0. When the Mac build server is back up and running, please look forward to the official Mac release that will include this feature.

2. In my testing, the Transition button only works for me when OBS isn't selected. Also what that hotkey does is transition between the program and preview scenes (please note this only worked for me when OBS Studio was in Studio mode).

3. If you want a different transition than the 'cut' transition, please select the one you want and set it up to the speed you want. It's all right there in the interface.

4. If you want animated transitions for your scene changes, you'll have to look up how to do those and/or code them in. Adding them as a source on top of a scene (as you have found out) won't work.

Hmmm I'm thinking of a workaround.

Using keyboard shortcuts for scenes, I could make a scene that contains JUST the transition animation, switch to that and then switch to the next scene.
The problem with this is, scenes have a black background as default, so the screen goes black for an instant before displaying the animation.
A fix would be to be able to make the scene background transparent. Hmmm

At this time you can't do what you're trying to do. Maybe someday such a feature will be added to OBS, but for the time being it isn't possible.

That said, do check out the luma wipes. They are quite nice.
