Bug Report "same as stream" does not do the same as stream.

I can use advanced settings and it works out ok, but in basic mode, no matter what bitrate I have the stream set for, when I record, it's only about 3500, and if I use "medium" quality, it's about 2500, which is not very good quality, and the next step goes all the way up to 12000-15000. Just thought I'd let you know.

When you use Same as Stream it will limit the Bitrate to the settings required by the choosen streaming service.
(For example max 3500 Kbps for Twitch.)

The bitrate that gets used when you use the quality presets depends on resolution, fps and the actual content you're recording.

1280x720 @ 30 FPS for example uses a CRF of 21.

Thanks. What's the point in being able to put a manual number into the video bitrate field if it doesn't do anything? The video bitrate field works fine on the non-studio version of OBS. Is there a reason why this option has been rendered useless in the studio version?

What is a CRF?

When I've tried to use the advanced settings, and even set it for 20000, I either get a video that's lower quality than when I have it set for the simple mode (which has usually been around 3500) even though the bitrate of the file is what I set it for, or the framerate is chunky and inconsistent, neither of those things being a desirable effect.

Because the Recording and Streaming Encoder are linked by default.
OBS Studio prevents Users trying to stream with too high bitrates.
Because of that you also can't record with high bitrates when you use the Same as Stream Setting.

When you use the Advanced Mode you have to uncheck the box that says "Enforce streaming service encoder settings". This will disable the limits.

CRF = Constant Rate Factor. The Encoder tries to maintain a set quality level.

Could you maybe please post a log from when you had issues recording?

So what should I do besides try to find somewhere that has the good multiplatform version I counted on and used for so long? As I said, the advanced mode will let me select the bitrate, but I either get a crappy framerate, or I get quality that looks like it's a bitrate below 2000 even if I have it set about 15000 and the properties of the video *show* it as being 15000.

What do you want to know out of the log file? What setting do you want me to try so a log file will be of some sort of benefit?

Here's the log file for when I have the bitrate set for 8000 and the "speed" set for "fast", where I get a very choppy framerate as a result.

Thanks, but I'm not interested in low quality and lower resolution. "Faster" at 8000 and 1920x1080 seems to work alright, but I'll probably use "large file size" mode in simple mode the most. "Veryfast" results in a quality that might as well be a bitrate of 4000.

Thanks for your help. I wish there was an option to change the bitrate in simple mode.

I doubt you can see the difference between faster and veryfast.
You can also just use the advanced mode.

Your cpu is also not good enough to use faster and 1080p 30fps, in your log you are skipping a ton of frames.

It's working fine when at a bitrate of 7000

The problem is a higher bitrate like 12000 in conjunction with "faster" and 1080p 30fps. I'd have to switch to "veryfast" to do 60fps. It's working out fine now. Again, I just wish I could change the bitrate in simple mode, but this works.
