Question / Help Ryzen 1700x Dedicated Streaming PC: Best settings?

So I just got a new PC with a Ryzen 1700x and a GTX 1050 TI. I didn't invest in the GPU because I won't be gaming in this PC.
It will capture the gaming PC (3770k + 1080 TI) through capture card or NDI Network.

I did some testing with 720p60 in Slow and Medium preset x264, and the stream was not very smooth.

I want to get the most I can from this CPU. I overclocked it to 3.9 Ghz and it was stable, but the stream is not very good yet.

I don't see any performance issues in the log when you used the medium preset, are you sure this isn't an NDI-related issue? Investing in a capture card would be the ideal solution here.

So, little update here: like you suggested, the capture card method was more efficient. I had an Elgato HD60 laying around.

The settings are the following right now:

Gaming PC:
- Running OBS at base resolution (1440p60), no downscaling, and a fullscreen preview at the Elgato monitor. This instance of OBS runs all the scenes.

Streaming PC:
- Running OBS at 1080p60, no downscaling, and capturing the Elgato. Preview disabled.

So I'm basically capturing the preview instead of cloning the monitor, so I can play at 1440p 144 fps and with no screen tearing at the Elgato.
I was able to stream 1080p60 in medium preset! But I need further testing. If I start losing frames I'll switch to fast.

This seems to be working fine, but for the sake of knowledge, is there a better way to capture the gaming PC?

I am in the process of upgrading my streaming PC to a 1700X, basically the exact same situation as you. I was wondering what your RAM speed and size is as I have read that with the R7 chips RAM speed is quite important only for gaming. I wasn't sure if, as a streaming PC only, it is just as important.

Hey, Funky :) We chatted a bit over Twitter when you were considering buying the Ryzen...

But to answer your question: Not really. The method you're using (capture card -> preview -> capture preview) is the best way to do things. NDI can offer some ease of use but in I always stick to a capture card for reliability.

Not OP but the memory speed shouldn't influence your Streaming quality/effectiveness. You could do fine with 8 GB 2133 or 2400 memory in this scenario!
