Question / Help Ryzen 1700 issue

Hello everyone,

I posted this on reddit, came here to get more ideas/recommendations

So after all the praise about the Ryzen, i decided to build a dedicated streaming PC using the Ryzen 1700.
I have been getting capped 100% CPU usage on instances when im streaming ( roaming around 60% then boom 100% for a couple of minutes). Not sure why or how, ive seen people stream using the same setup ( dual pc ) @1080p 60fps without any issues, and i cant even maintain a 900p 60fps resolution.

Any tips or advice would be helpfull

Stream Settings on Streaming PC:
Econder x264
Bitrate 8000
Buffer size 2500
CPU Usage ( was at medium, moved to fast, now at verfast )
Video Base Resolution 1080p
Output 900p
FPS 60
Downscale Filter Lanczos
Internet Speed fast enough to support the 8MB upload i am using ( i have the gigabit package )

Someone suggested my CPU is throttling ran a test and its fine ( https://postimg.cc/CZynHj8G)

Currently , i am streaming Blackops 4- could this be a game specific ( it shouldnt ??)
Anyone streaming with these setting with no issues ?
CPU Preset of fast should be fine ?

Thanks for your help

For reference, I have the same camera, processor and a RX580, so I'm very familiar with what they are capable of, when it comes to streaming.

Based on your log, you need to disable GameDVR in your windows settings but the major reason you're having issues is the fact you need to overclock your CPU to around 3.5 to 3.7GHz, if you want to really stream 900p@60FPS@very fast or faster, at least.

Changing downscale filtering to Bicubic can help with some edge cases as well, though it's not a huge boost in performance, in my experience.

Thanks for your reply,

I just disabled GameDVR, and I don't think im able to overclock, I have the 1700 not the 1700X ( unless ican overclock both).
How did the others from all the threads (reddit, youtube,OBS) able to stream using this processor at 1080p 60FPS @ Medium ?
Edit: I can overclock both, I wonder how my stock cooler with be with the OC.

All desktop Ryzen processors are overclockable, which is why the 1700 and 1700x were so popular. They are very easy to overclock and then deliver the same or better performance than a stock 1800x can offer for a much lower price point.

If your stock cooler is seated correctly, I recommend the middle ground and set it at 3.6Ghz on your bios, which is stock 1800x all core frequency, without touching any other setting except fan speeds. It's what I had for months and temperatures never went above 60ºC on very heavy loads, which is well within the safety limits of this processor. I could've gone lower but that's the temperature I set my 100% fan speed to trigger at.

I do recommend reading a bit more about overclocking these on AMD subreddit.

Afte researching and playing around, i cant overclock my CPU unfortunately. I bought this streaming pc as a used one from Ebay ( lenovo) which has a locked BIOS. no luck in overclocking unless i switch out the motherboard. Guess for now the highest i can stream at is 900p at 60 FPS.

Ryzen Master utility might be worth a shot, it works on some prebuilt systems with locked bios.

Yeah tried that, i overclock, it asks for restart, i restart, the current preset still at 3.2 although i upped the voltage and the hz to 3.5

I think, this is also related to the game you play.
With Diablo 3 for example (uses only 1-2 cores), i can easily record/stream with 864p 60fps fast preset, even when restricting OBS to only use core 8 of my 16 threads.
864p with only 30fps is even working with slow preset. Yes my 1700x is running a higher base- and boost clock on full load and it's overclocked to 3.8GHz allcore @1.125V but when running games with low CPU usage (or at least low thread count usage), even a stock clocked 1700 non X should be able to do 900p 60fps at faster or even fast preset.

That said, Monster Hunter World on the other hand is using many cores and it's pushing a decent load on all those cores, so there is a lot less power left for video encoding in this scenario.

Make sure your windows energy settings are on max performance. When i did my first overclock years ago i spent hours of searching why my oc didnt work .. windows tweaked it down ....
