Question / Help Roland VC-30HD

I was wondering if anyone has had success with using this device with OBS?

When using OBS Studio - it doesn't even show in my list of capture devices.

When trying OBS Classic - it shows in the list, and you can select it / change settings - however I just get a red square showing up (which is still better than nothing!)

However I haven't been able to actually show any video playing through the device.

Roland states that Telestream's WireCast software and Ustream's Producer software are on the compatibility list for the unit (amongst others);

Secondaly, I was wondering if there was any plans on adding compatibility for this to OBS Studio (esp. given it was working in Classic)?

Thank you :)

OBS Studio never had Firewire support added (unlike Classic), so that's why it's a selectable source in Classic but not Studio.

If such support was added to Studio, then it would be possible for the Roland VC-30HD to work with Studio (Studio would also need HDV support, which could be built into the OS, I don't know either way), but there are of course no guarantees.

Hi there,

I think there's a misinterpretation here; The unit does allow for IEEE1394 (FireWire) pass through, and output; however, it actually has a USB connector which outputs video and audio to a computer (inbuilt DAC);

I'm just connecting the device to a PC (Via USB) with a single HDMI input to the unit.
So I was wondering if there was any plans to include USB drivers for this in OBS; or if there was a known way to get it to be recognised. The Roland Application that is provided for the unit allows for simple capture - but I was hoping to utilise the power and potential of OBS with this unit for some other things.

Thanks.

OBS uses video capture devices that present a DirectShow interface. The question should be, will Roalnd provide a DirectShow driver for their device?
