Question / Help Right Screen resolution and problem with Logitech c920

Hi everyone,

I've got some problems with my video resolutions on OBS Studio.

My base canvas resolution is 1680 x 1050. In my last few streams, I also used this resolution as my output resolution and it was basically "okay". But in my last stream I wanted to capture my workdesk for a creative stream with my Logitech C920 (not fullscreen, but like 60% of it), but it looked really blurry and pixelated. It felt like the resolution of the camera was to low for the 1680 x 1050 canvas. Should I change the output to another resolution?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Have a nice day!

If you're aiming to fill the screen with the camera, just right-click the camera's source, transform, fit to screen.

If you right-click on the camera source in OBS->Properties, in the new Window that pops up, you can set the resolution. If you post a log we can see what resolution the webcam is running at.

Thank you for your answers!

I found this in the log file:

13:07:21.668: video device: Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920
13:07:21.668: resolution: 640x480
13:07:21.668: fps: 30.00 (interval: 333333)
13:07:21.668: format: I420

But 640x480 irritates me a bit. And this is what I found in my settings:

change Device Default under Resolution/FPS Type to Custom. Then set your Resolution below to 1280x720 OR 1920x1080 at 30fps. The camera is capable of both but it also depends on your PC if it can take it. Have fun :D

I was having the same problem. As soon as I would change the Resolution/FPS, my camera would disappear.

I use 2 logitech c920's (one face cam, one painting cam) and I have always had some issues. But this is a weird one!
To solve this, here is my method (I have to do this almost every time I open OBS):
- Hide facecam
- Remove painting cam completely
- Switch scenes to intro screen (or one that has no cameras)
- Switch scenes back to painting scene where I want to have both cameras
- Add Video Capture Device, Select the c920 (it defaults to the one not in use), hit OK
- Right click on the camera you just added, click Properties, change resolution to "Custom" and type 1920x1080 (NOTE: Don't just select it from the drop down menu, sometimes that makes it disappear. Instead, start TYPING 1920x1080, and it will automatically fill it in, and work. Choose 30 FPS)
- Hit OK
- Unhide face cam

Then it all works!
I am very wary about switching scenes after this point. Usually switching scenes causes the camera to disappear AGAIN. It might be because I use 2 logitech c920s? If I MUST switch scenes during stream, I always hide my facecam first, as this occasionally reduces the changes of my other camera disappearing randomly.
But I usually just stay in my painting screen the entire time, except for intro/outro scenes.

If you have 2 of the same cams like me, and you're having issues, ALWAYS hide your face cam before switching scenes AND before exiting OBS. It seems to cause way less issues.

This is a work-around, not a solution. To me, it's worth it to have high-res video for my paintings!
