Hi all,

what's the difference between:
  1. Settings/Output/Recording/Rescale checkbox + drop down with resolutions
  2. Settings/Video/Output (scaled) resolution + drop down with resolution
MaX.

Hmm ... that would be weird as in fact there are 3 settings (I mentioned only two as I'm not interested in streaming):
  1. Settings/Output/Recording/Rescale checkbox + drop down with resolutions
  2. Settings/Output/Streaming/Rescale checkbox + drop down with resolutions
  3. Settings/Video/Output (scaled) resolution + drop down with resolution
MaX.

Changing Video/Output(#3) will change it for both streaming and recording. The other 2 will rescale the output resolution(Downscale Resolution) you have set up in Video/Output, they can be ignored in most use cases.

If you want to record and stream at 2 different resolutions, that is when they come into play.

Set your scene size to be the same as your monitors native resolution, set your output(downscale) resolution to be what you want to record at, set your FPS. If you are not downscaling from native resolution don't worry about the filter. If you are downscaling, Lanczos is good in most cases but in some cases it is not the best choice, despite popular opinion.

The resolution downscale in Settings > Video is performed on the GPU and can use the downscale filters. This is what arrives at Settings > Output for streaming and recording. The resolution rescale in Settings > Output is performed on the CPU and can't use the downscale filters.

For the most part the only time you would want use the rescaling option under Settings > Output is when you want to stream and record at different resolutions, e.g. stream at a rescaled 1280x720 with x264 but record at the original 1920x1080 with Quick Sync/NVENC.

Let's just say you can go nuts and resize your 2556 x 1440 to a preview resolution of 1920 x 1080 (using #3).
Then use #2 to stream at 720 × 576.
AND use #1 to record at... I don't know, 1280 x 720?

Not that's recommended at ALL.

I set everything up for 1920 x 1080 (no scaling), record at that (no scaling) and stream at 1280 x 720 (scale using #2).
