Question / Help Recordings made now no longer play on my media player

I recently upgraded OBS to the latest version 24.0.3 (64 bit) and since then all recordings made using display capture will not play at all on my Med8er media player via my LAN. The recordings will play back on the PC using VLC player but on the M8 it always comes up 'unsupported format'. I have tried every output format possible, including remuxing MKV to MP4 but none of them now play. The only way I can get them to play in my M8 is to convert from mkv to mp4 uisng an external converter, which takes a very long time to do. All my previous recordings made prior to this upgrade still play perfectly in the M8 but any new ones just won't. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Seems like no-one has a solution. Can I go back to an earlier version of OBS which worked fine with my player? How do I download it? Cheers

Hi Harold, Yes as I said in my original posting. All recordings in all formats play OK in VLC I've also tried OBS on a different PC (same latest version) and exactly the same. No luck with M8 but play OK in VLC. Think stepping back to an earlier vesrion of OBS is the only cure. First PC is running W8.1 second one W10.

Sounds like M8 player is not worth keeping actually

Provide your OBS log from a session where you did a recording.

No chance. My M8 is one of the best and most reliable players I have ever used. I've been trying all day with lots of changes to settings in OBS but it never works. So am getting rid of this latest version and going back to an earlier version which worked. Maybe the later version is just not compatible with M8 now. I'll report back when I have reverted and tried a few recordings.

I want the logs from the CURRENT version of obs. not some old version that isn't going to get any fixes applied to it.

And as reliable as it has been historically for you, you need to go to them with this problem, because VLC plays the recordings fine and M8 doesn't.

Hi Harold, Not trying to defame OBS, which I think is brilliant and the best around. Was just saying that this prob with M8 only emerged with the latest version of OBS. So I thought if I reverted back to the original version I may be happy with that for the M8 recordings. However...... I removed the later version and re-installed the older version of OBS ( 22.0.2 ) and surprise surprise, the 'new' problem remained. Still no playback on M8 with new recordings made with OBS. Yet the ones I made prior to updating (and reverting) still play back perfectly. As for logs I am not sure how to access these. If you will kindly enlighten me I will send you the log files. Thanks a lot. Barry

Thnaks. Never thought of 'Help' :-) Here rae a few log files from the lats few sessions. I think the eralier ones are the ones using the latest OBS version. The very recent ones may be the reverted old version. I trust you can glean what you need from these. Many thanks for your help.

It looks like youre encoding audio as AAC not mp3, which your M8 will not play as its considered DRM. can you try changing audio to mp3?

EDIT - and as soon as I went to check my setup, I am not sure how to find it...

I don't mind having a go if it's possible as I have another (backup) PC with OBS installed that I can experiment with.
Cannot the conversion be done outside OBS after recording? What puzzles me is it must have been set to AAC in the past too and all those recordings play back OK on the M8. Puzzling indeed.

Solved it! (well I hope so). It was the video bitrate figure in 'output' settings. Don't know why but it was set to 2413. I changed it to 2500 and all is well again. Only tried a few recordings so far but will try a long one later on. Thanks for helping. Still don't understand why that figure changed in the first place

Well it lasted a few clips then went 'funny' again. Discovered that setting the wrong output scaling resolution caused it to be unplayable. Had to chose a lower res than my TV for it to play and then it was about 3/4 of the screen displayed. Wonder why it's all gone so different after many months of error-free use. Anyway it's a compromise for now until I have more attempts at getting it back to how it used to be. Watch this space. :-)

I have to apologise chaps, after troubling you I have found out what the cause of all this is. I had completely forgotten I had tried a 4K monitor out (3840 x 2160) and after I changed the source setting to the 4K I forgot to change it back to my 1920 x 1080 monitor and that is what has caused all this bother. It's fine now I changed it back. Sorry again.
