Question / Help Recording with QuickSync suddenly freeze PC

Hey so I have this problem suddenly that using Quicksync freezes my pc totally, have to do a hard reset by holding down power button. I had not this problem at all earlier today. I was recording 1080p 60fps video. the encoder kept up fine, anything above that crashed OBS. ayway I recorded a good 1h total of clips trougout the day, but went and tried little different settings. and after that OBS does not work with Quick sync anymore, no matter what Rate control I use with quicksync. I had this problem 1 month ago, and tried to record again and now it worked for a while. My pc has othervise quite low performance so using the CPU encoder or GPU encoder really kills the framerates if I try record with good quality. using quicksync really saved me, but now it does not work anymore. Its frustrating because every time the pc freeze all my OBS recording settings reset.
What I noticed: It freezes anywhere from the moment I press record to 10 second ingame. you see all specs in my log file. im really lost because I have really no idea why my pc crash, even if I try with CBR at low 2000 it still freeze.
(here I tried with 30fps)

Your log doesn't show a recording attempt. Please try to start a recording, wait a minute or two, then stop the recording before uploading your log file. That should give us more information to work with.

You're on an Ivy Bridge processor. General opinion on Quick Sync seems to be that it isn't really usable on processors before Haswell.

I'm having trouble finding the specs on max throughput for Quick Sync on Ivy Bridge, but I suspect that it can't handle anything above 1080p video. A log with a recording attempt with an unsupported resolution should show a warning.

hi I understand what you mean, but as the pc freeze there is no more info in the log then this. I guess after a while attempting to record the pc freeze. like it didnt really start record at all. there is no recorded footage in my output folder.
and you are right. IF I try 1440p I get an error or obs crash.

Ivy Bridge/HD 4000 should work fine with QSV but you're probably correct that it's limited to 1920x1080. I'd grab the latest drivers from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/do...ows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-33-?product=81499 and do a clean install following the instructions at https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/performing-a-clean-gpu-driver-installation.65/ to see if that helps. As far as settings try using the recording quality presets in Simple Output mode if possible.
yeah as I said I was recording just fine earleir 1080p 60fps video. afaik the obs program did not report any encoder overload error while recording eather. Its pity just as I got it working great and was gona start testing best quality settings it freezed. Im gona try reinstall the drivers for hd4000 and see if that helps anyway, tnx for that link

after reinstalling all drivers, testing with 2nd screen unplugged, different capture modes and recording on different monitors, I fixed the problem. as I didnt use the IGPU before, it had some wierd settings in bios. like voltage was controlled by offset, not auto and so on (no idea why). I had my cpu also OC to 4.2ghz, but at the moment I just resetted the Bios settings to deafult. after that everything works again.
so in the end it seems that igpu settings in bios where wrong, or then my cpu when OC used too much power so the igpu freezed or something? my motherboard is 3-4years old, and I read somewhere that as they age the stuff that controls voltage gets weaker.
its just wierd how it worked the day before I made this thread, I didnt touch the bios in months. oh well
