Question / Help Recording Using NVENC H.264 Makes Black Video

I have no clue what I'm doing or how any of this works. I'd like to record lossless video so I can make League of Legends YouTube videos. However, when I record using NVENC H.264, the video comes up black. I'd like to fix this, if possible. If I can't record lossless, then what bitrate and CPU preset should I use on x264?

CPU: i5-6600K (not overclocked)
Motherboard: Asrock Z170 Pro4
GPU: GTX 1060

Hello,

Try adding a keyframe interval of 2. If the black screen still appears using lossless, try changing rate control to CBR or VBR with a bit rate of 60,000 for a high quality 1080p recording; leave keyframe interval of 2 unchanged. With these setting you can change the profile to high, but leave the preset to default for NVENC.

I'll try that. Also, is there a reason for using 60,000 specifically? If I set it too high, will the file sizes just keep getting bigger without any increase in quality?

Okay, so I still got the black screen. However, I switched it to x264 at 60,000 bitrate and it worked fine. The file size, however, is 83.3 MB for an 11-second clip. Are file sizes normally that big?

For me, the problem was absent-mindedly using a recording profile for fullscreen applications (gaming) when I was testing settings by just recording my desktop and whatever apps I had open. Commenting this for anyone else possibly Googling the same thing in the future.
