Recording stopped after 20 minutes - first time it's ever happened!

Hi, there! First off, I cannot tell you the amount of bugs and breaks my friend and I have faced trying to tame this software. It has worked against us in so many different ways over the last two weeks to the point where it almost drove us insane... until we finally got everything working in app and in game for a playthrough tonight.

I was so excited; however, 10 minutes into 2-hour recording session, the software STOPPED STREAMING. Spontaneously, at the click of a finger. It seemed to have happened when I went from the Phasmophobia Server Lobby into the actual level.

I've attached a log of the session below. Hopefully someone can help me out, as I have Googled and found tens upon tens of this similar question asked but with simple answers that seem to help no one (and yes, I have tried double-checking them just in case I had made an obvious mistake). There are no hotkeys assigned, and my recording has never stopped mid-game the last 7 or 8 recordings I have been able to make.

Hoping to get some help on what may cause this bug to trigger. :)

I have found now identified the "Skipped 2 frames due to encoder lag" and found some good threads on that, but many of the micro-solutions they brought forward were already in place in my OBS program, including not saving in .MP4, recording in bi-linear, and recording in less than 60FPS. I have also adjusted my laptop settings to run at peak performance, and have now changed my scaled output resolution! I've also set a prompt to show when my recording stops, so that should tell me at least WHEN it happens. Hopefully the small changes I've applied will stop the problem, but more help is always appreciated!

There are no errors that result in a recording being terminated in the log. The log shows a completely normal stop of recording, as if someone clicked on the button to stop recording. Or clicked the corresponding menu item in the system tray icon. It's not due to a hotkey, because if it were due to a hotkey, a corresponding message would be visible in the log.

Do we think it was just a glitch in the matrix? The program just stopped because... it just stopped? If that's the case, and if these solutions I've found DON'T work, no more OBS for me - I'll try something a little more reliable. :)

Sounds for me you activated the timer
found under tools->output timer
look that there are no checkmarks

otherwise look at hotkeys that you have not marked stop keys

If you say the recording stopped when your game switched from the lobby view to the game view, then it might be it was possible for a split second to click on the desktop, your mouse was coincidentally at the same position as the stop button of OBS, and you coincidentally clicked the left mouse button that moment. Impossible you say? No. Such things happen. It's called Murphy's Law.

thx koala thats true the "click behind" mystic issue is still a source of that issue (simple fix minimize obs) if OBS is run Behind the "active" window this issue can be happen to if you "play" in Real fullscreen and OBS is on Display 1/2/3 (1% its a fullscreen bug but mostly only happen in games designed for Windows 98->windows7)

To reiterate: no hotkeys are set (double-checked), no timers are set (double-checked), and the desktop was never accessed - I was in-game the whole time and have proof of it until the recording stopped. However, I will make sure to record then minimise the app from now on to avoid that happening. I do believe it was just a program crash for now, unable to sustain. What is more confusing, however, is that none of my previous recordings have shown any sign of lag when watching them back, so it doesn't seem like my performance settings were an issue, but I have made adjustments just in case.

I have made the following changes to my settings after sourcing information regarding this bug from 25+ other threads, sites and blogs:

LAPTOP
- laptop settings: running at 'Best Performance'

OBS STUDIO
- VIDEO: dropped framerate from 50 PAL to 30 fps
- VIDEO: changed scaled output resolution to 1280x720
- ADVANCED: changed color space to 601

Downscale filter already on Bilinear, colour range already on Partial and my files save as .mkv files. I have also ticked the box in the General Outut settings to "Show confirmation dialog when stopping recording" so that now I know when it does, hopefully.

As said, if none of these fixes work, I will be looking to transfer to a different streaming/recording software for reliability, quality and performance. Thanks for your help, and please continue to help if you have the answers, haha!
