Hello. I have encountered a very weird problem that I cannot find any solution to.
My hardware:
Laptop model: ASUS ROG Strix Scar II GL704GM;
CPU: Intel i7 8750H 2.20 GHz - 4.1 GHz;
GPU: GeForce GTX 1060;
RAM: 16 GB 2666 MHz Single Channel ;
256 NVMe SSD + 1 TB 7200 HDD;
Screen is 144 Hz;
Temps never go above 72-74 degrees for both GPU and CPU.
Take a note that I have 2 GPUs: Intel HD 630 (Integrated) and GTX 1060 (dedicated)
I have tried different methods of recording x264; NVENC; QuickSync;
With all the info I have provided you, now let's get to the problem with each config;
x264 - This encoder uses CPU; In my opinion, my CPU with the amount of cores/threads and the clockspeeds it possesses should be able to handle this config, yet, for some reason, I cannot get consistent 144 FPS and as soon as I start recording with these settings with this encoder my fps drops down to 90-120;
I have also tried using minimal preset but with no luck, same FPS dropdown.
NVENC - This encoder uses GPU; So, considering that x264 encoder wasn't able to handle recording, I tried using NVENC. With the settings I provided I was able to get consistent 144 FPS during recording. However, I experience game (and consequently recording) freezes. Every 10 - 15 minutes game freezes for a brief period of time and FPS drops for mere 10 points and then goes back again to 144 and continues being stable for another 10-15 minutes. As soon as I turn off recording, freezes disappear and gameplay is constantly smooth.
Now for the software I tried: OBS/Fraps/Bandicam/Shadowplay.
All of these got me same results with some variations here and there, but nothing that would play huge role and the problem persists until this day.
Perhaps I am missing something here and there is an easy solution to this I don't see, so please, help me.
If you need any additional information on anything, let me know and I will post it here asap.
Thank you.
