Question / Help Recording in 1080p, and upscale to 4K

Hi Guys.

What settings would you recommend for recording in 1080p, and then upscaling that footage to 4K in Premiere Pro when I export a video? I have a laptop that I do my recording and editing on. It has an i7 6700HQ with a GTX980M, and 16GB of Ram. When I record PS4 or Xbox one gameplay, I use a Razer Ripsaw capture card with OBS Studio.

I usually record with the encoder set on NVENC with a CQP of 15 to a .TS file. The profile is set to High and the Preset is set to High-Quality. That is then ran through Handbrake which converts it to a .MP4. In Handbrake, I use an RF of 15, same FPS, encoder set to x264, profile is high, and the encoding speed is set to slow or very slow. (I have been planning to record footage during the day, and then let the footage transcode while I'm sleeping.)

I have also thought about converting my .TS file to x265 HEVC for the space savings and superior quality. Then taking that x265 file, to Premiere Pro for editing, and the rendering that out to a 4K MP4. What is your opinion on this?

This seems like a lot of steps, and I have a strong hunch that every time I transcode the footage (since it's all in a lossy format, that I am continually losing video and audio quality. I want to bump up my settings to a higher quality so that it evens out in the end? Or does that really matter?

Last time I checked, whenever I recorded directly to an MP4 format, Premiere Pro throws the audio and video out of sync. Transcoding the footage in Handbrake (doing a rewrap, I think that's the correct term) fixed that issue. So I just stuck with it. However, I need to test this again because at the time I was using a Hauppauge PVR and using their capture software. I am now using a Razer Ripsaw with OBS. (I'm assuming that would make a difference)

What settings should I be recording at for me to have great/immaculate quality at 1080p, and then it come out looking great at 4K when the render is complete? I want to try and stay away from loseless if I can due to the amount of hard drive it eats up, but I realize that reduces the quality of the video. I want to do this because YouTube gives higher priority to 4K videos, and they look much nicer in comparison.

What changes would you make to this set up? Would you upscale to 4K? Why or why not? What is the optimal settings for perceptually lossless video at 1080p, and upscaled 4K?

I have read this guide before. https://obsproject.com/forum/resour...lity-recording-and-multiple-audio-tracks.221/

Hi. Sorry I was researching about the ripsaw and stumbled upon this post. Is it correct that you are using a laptop with i7-6700HQ with gtx 980m with your ripsaw? And it works? Because I was plannimg to get the ripsaw too but the website says that at least an i7-4810MQ with gtx 870m is needed. Will my asus rog gl552vw with i7-6700hq and gtx 960m work with ripsaw? I was afraid that it wouldnt so i was hesistating to buy it.
