Recorded sound from mic distorted

I use 25.0.8 on Linux Mint 19.3. I have just installed and today made a few test recordings. I record audio from the built-in mic on my laptop.

The problem becomes apparent when listening to the sound from these two short test files:

Windows 10 recording: https://youtu.be/mSeRuV-xVcg

OBS recording: https://youtu.be/mU77uREvPi0

I did change the audio setting 'Metre' to "real top point" (Norwegian: 'Ekte topppunkt') which made the whizzing audio distortion diminish somewhat.

Large difference between the two OS's, so that would narrow it down to software somewhere. I noticed this part of the log data:

Code:
kl. 14.05 +0200.748: pulse-input: Server name: 'pulseaudio 11.1'
kl. 14.05 +0200.749: pulse-input: Audio format: s16le, 44100 Hz, 2 channels
kl. 14.05 +0200.749: pulse-input: Started recording from 'alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo.monitor'

I'd start poking around with PulseAudio settings (see if the mic is set to beyond 100%) in pavucontrol
