Question / Help Record with Transparent Background

Hi there,

I'm new to OBS (it's great!) but I'm wanting to see if I can generate a recorded file with a transparent background. I'm mixing captures which contain transparency and I want to maintain nice alpha antialiasing on the edges rather than use colour keying.

If I set the recorded output to .mov, using the png encoder and -pix_fmt rgba I'm able to create (very large as expected) files which contain an alpha channel (I've checked with ffprobe), however the data in the channel itself appears to be a solid alpha. I've also exported as utvideo/ULRA too and the same applies.

This makes me think that OBS must be setup with a black background, which can be overwritten with colour eg. an image source, but not transparency.

Can anyone let me know if that's the case, and if so, if there's a way around it.

Thanks!
