Record lectures

Hi! I'm a newbie here and I want to record lectures I attend. Right now I'm able to record the screen only when it is in the foreground. When I switch tabs, the video shows black screen. I want to record whatever is on the screen. Like when the lecturer performs some tasks and when I do the same on my device both. Currently only lecturer part is getting recorded and when I switch tabs to go to my software it records only the audio of the session with a black screen. Please help me with this.

Thanks in advance

What do you mean with "tabs"? Do you mean browser tabs? In this case, any recording software is able to record the foreground tab only, never any background tab. This is because the browser will never render background tabs. Many apps stop rendering their window as well, as soon as you minimize them to the task bar.
Rule of thumb: The item you want to record with OBS must be at least part visible on your screen.

Hi @koala !
Thank you for your response. I mean I want to record whatever is visible on my screen (irrespective of which window I am working on) along with system audio. For instance if I am playing a video in one browser tab that should be recorded and when I switch to another app or open a new browser tab or even a new window, whatever is displayed on the screen all the activity I do should get recorded plus the audio part of the video that is now playing in the background.
