Question / Help Record from Windows to Mac with OBS

Hi

Hopefully someone can help me. I want to record gaming, ideally using OBS. I used to do this on an old laptop with both the gaming and recording running on the same machine, but this had some performance impact. I have a reasonably new gaming rig and I know it’s possible to get capture cards.

What I’d like to do is game on a Windows 10 desktop (Ryzen 7 3700X 8x3.6-4.4ghz, RX 5700 XT 8gb, 16gb Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz) but record via a capture card to my MacBook Pro (i5 dual core 3.1ghz, 8gb RAM).

Firstly is it possible to record this way with the gaming and recording machines running a different OS and secondly if so, what will I need to make it work?

Many thanks

If you want to use the Mac version of OBS to record on a Mac, please ask in the OBS Mac support forum. The people in that forum might have an answer whether and which capture cards are supported with Mac. What video source you connect to a capture card doesn't matter. Console, Windows PC, even TV settop box - as long as it is hdmi for a hdmi capture card, can be captured the same.

On the other hand, I would try to use your gaming PC for streaming first. Your Windows PC has probably more computing resources left for OBS along with the game than your Macbook has for OBS exclusively.
