I noticed the problem with my Hauppauge Rocket on my 2 different Macs. The third-party software requires the use of VLC and an internet port they recommend 224.0.0.1:1234.
There are two problems with that. What is my home internet is 1.5 megabits in 400 kilobits out. Every time I try to use my Rockets, either other people's internet traffic is clogged by my video even though I'm not broadcasting using the home network. (by the way I have two different ways to broadcast out via cellular with way more outbound bandwidth than 400 kilobits per second). However if I cut off the computer from the home internet I get a whole bunch of weird errors when the apple is totally cut off from the internet.
I tried a couple things and found an easycap capture card to be a good solution because it's Universal plug-and-play and doesn't involve an IP address. I found a good composite / s video capture card. I would have a good HDMI capture card except for the fact that the one I have downgrades video to 480i on its own. what I downgrade using the Apple it seems like there's less information, for example letters and numbers laclear when the Apple cuts down the resolution than when this device does. So a new HDMI dongle is on the way.
By the way I don't need 4K. I don't have a 4K TV. Would a USB 2.0 HDMI capture card work?
Finally I got one format that I currently can't capture. That is component ypbpr. Any recommendations for easycap compatible component capture cards?
