Reaper to OBS to Zoom issues?

I have been using Reastream VST plugin to connect Reaper to OBS and then VB virtual cable to send OBS audio to Zoom.
I was excited by the results, then it stopped working.

Now when I record in OBS the audio pops clicks and crackles.
When I select the VBcable as mic/audio source in Zoom I either get nothing or a very low level distorted sound.

I've tried re installing Zoom, OBS, Reaper and VBcables.

I've been going down this rabbit hole for a live concert coming up where having all the effects Reaper offers would be welcome. I'm about to revert to a hardware solution of a mixer with a bit of EQ and reverb.

I might be paranoid or grasping at straws but this happened the day after Microsoft auto updated my Windows 10? (Sept 3rd, 2020)

Anyone else having such issues? Open to all suggestions.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 5593 laptop 64bit, Windows 10 Home version 10.0.19041 Build 19041
Processor Intel core i7-1065G7 CPU
REaper v6.13/x64
OBS v 25.0.8 (64bit)
Zoom 5.2.2

I ended up resetting OBS by going to File choosing Show Settings Folder, closing OBS, and then copying all files there into another folder. Restarting OBS. Then I did a minimalist setup of 3 scenes and when I recorded there was no more crackle. In the settings folder there is a folder called "basic" and in it there is a folder called "scenes " I one by one added my scene collection back in until my symptoms recurred. I was at least in part asking too much of my system. I'll experiment to see what I can and can't do with my setup.

Oh, Jeez! I have the exact same issue and had the *same* exact issue happen yesterday right before a live stream. It was bulletproof prior to the update (9/10). However, now OBS is not seeing output from my DAW at all, but it does see audio from the desktop. Is it Rea Stream, or what.

Have you identified what about the update did it?

I deleted and re-uploaded OBS to no avail.

I am desperate as I have more live streams coming up.

Thank you, anyone, in advance,
Laura

FWIW, I have exactly the same issue as of yesterday 14 Oct 2020 when the following Windows updates were applied: KB4577671, KB4580325, KB4578974. Uninstalling the updates made no difference so I've re-installed them. One thing I did note was that all the audio devices were reset to 'Allow an app exclusive control of this device', which meant I couldn't run my DAW on output channels 1+2 while watching a Youtube vid on 3+4. I was able to reset this bit manually, but the reastream plugin doesn't communicate between my DAW (Cubase 10.5) and OBS. It worked fine last week. All I want to do is get the output from DAW into Zoom audio and I can't help wonder why I even need OBS to do this!
