Question / Help Random stuttering in your recordings?

I installed OBS a few days ago, and after a lot of fiddling with the settings and looking up information online, I finally got the program set up the way I wanted. But there was one problem I just couldn't/(can't) get past, random stuttering in my recordings even though the game ran fine and OBS wasn't reporting any continuous rendering or encoding lag. Here's an example from the new Metro: Exodus.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sg-dnOxCXwU

The stuttering starts at 1:10, lasts a few seconds and then the rest of the video is pretty smooth.
Also, I don't have a log file anymore of the above video.

Since I've recorded this video, I've made a few changes to my settings in OBS. And I've now made multiple new recordings lasting about 5 to 15 minutes each, that don't seem to have any stuttering. Now I can't say for certain the problem is fixed, but I've not had the kind of frame skipping that lasts a few seconds as seen in the above video, since I've made these changes.

Here's a list of the changes I've made:
- Switched from game capture to display capture. (Game capture would sometimes record a blank screen, or have compatibility issues with RTSS.)
- Disabled two-pass encoding and changed B frames from 4 to 2.
- Changed YUV color space from 709 back to 601. (I read somewhere on this forum that this could also be causing the stuttering, so back to default it is.)
- Process priority is set to high.
- Switched the container from MKV back to FLV. (FLV for some reason seems to works best, MKV was seemingly also inducing stuttering. I can't give you a technical explanation, this was just through trial and error.)
- Disabled browser source hardware acceleration.
- I also disable the preview window.
- My games are installed on a separate ssd, and I save my recordings on an external hdd.
- I also restart OBS for every recording session.

Now I've played again through the same section in the above video, and it seems to be completely smooth from beginning to end. And although I've not uploaded it to youtube, here's the log file of the recording with a more detailed list of all the settings.

Judging by the countless forum/reddit posts I've encountered, I know I'm not the only one who has this problem. And I hope to get some feedback from anyone willing to try these changes or has similar issues.

I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. I do want to see what suggestions you get though. I've been fighting a stutter every 1/2 second more so for quite some time, and cant seem to get rid of it.

Also in-game? Or just the output file? Do you use vsync or any kind of frame limiter?
