Random Segments of Video Files Frozen or Distorted

I just don't get it. I'm running a brand new laptop with 16GB RAM, a Logitech C920X webcam, and a Blue Yeti microphone. I've been keeping my laptop up to date, I record at 1280x720 resolution, use the hardware (QSV, H.264) encoder, High Quality/Medium file size, mkv recording format.

When I look over my recordings, there's always at least a couple fragments (most lasting a few seconds, the worst lasting a few minutes) where the video either disappears completely, freezes in place, or gets all distorted. In each case, the audio cuts out completely or stutters on one sound for the duration.

I've been trying to fix this for a couple months now (the main reason why I bought this new laptop), and it's better now than before. But it's still irritating to come across sections where my recording freezes or disappears. I'm primarily recording reaction videos for Youtube, and I can usually edit the broken sections out, but I also run a Patreon with full-length videos, and I hate that I'm having to use videos with broken segments that affect the overall quality.

I'm not even recording at that high of a resolution, so what am I doing wrong?
