Random frame drops in USB camera preview & recordings

I seem to be having the same issue described in this thread here: https://forum.level1techs.com/t/frame-time-consistency-of-uvc-and-or-v4l2-devices-in-obs/170753

I'm getting random frame drops when using certain USB cameras. Every minute or two there will be a 1-2 second period of reduced frame rate in the video. This happens even when I'm not recording and just looking at the preview.

This issue doesn't happen in Windows. Also no issues when using other applications in Linux to view the camera. That's why I linked the thread above. The guy who made that thread seems to think it's an issue with how OBS interacts with UVC or V4L2. Has anyone else experienced this or are aware of this issue?

I'm currently running EndeavourOS with KDE and Wayland if that matters.

Reopening cause I'm having this issue too. Ubuntu 24.10, HD60X, Nvidia drivers. Works perfectly aside from occasional single frame drops, even with pipewire. Maybe it's a GPU thing? The preview doesn't use video decoding for some reason.
