Random audio drops

Today while streaming, the audio just cut out. It came back in and cut out again. I could hear the audio through the monitor but it was not playing in the stream nor was it picked up in the recording. What would cause that to happen in OBS?

If you can hear it with your audio monitoring device (headphones) but it is not being captured in stream or recording, then go check in Advanced Audio Properties (click the cogwheel for one of the audio sources to bring it up) and see if:
  • The source is not muted in the audio mixer panel
  • Volume (db) level is set correctly
  • Audio Monitoring is not set to Monitor Only (mute output)
  • Track 1 has been enabled
  • Your audio filters (if you are using them) is set appropriately
If it was working before, then something changed. In this case, it is up to you to be your own car mechanic and get under the hood to fix. It is best to:
  • Update Windows to the current version
  • Update OBS to the current version
  • Update all your audio device drivers and motherboard audio drivers
Don't rule out that the physical audio device is defected. You need to run tests for that.
