Random Audio Clipping (without any discernible cause)

Greetings, I am using OBS for recording (not streaming), and despite various settings adjustments, repeatedly reducing mic gain and doing things like adding the CoreAudio AAC encoder I continue to get periodic audio clipping. Video quality has been fine (ie, no jankiness). I'm recording to a SSD, so hard drive delays should not be an issue (and again, that would show up in the video too, I would think). I'm at a loss as to what could be the cause.

Here is a log from a recording with audio clipping.

And here is a an audio-only sample from a recording which includes/demonstrates what the "clipping" sounds like, and how there is nothing in what is being recorded that seems to coincide with the clipping (ie, I'm speaking at a normal, relatively soft volume):

One thing that is curious is that at least in one instance I noticed that playing the original recording (from OBS) in VLC did not result in any audible clipping, but loading the recording into my editor (PowerDirector) clearly shows (with resulting audio artifact) each instance of clipping in the audio waveform. I don't know if VLC is just super-forgiving, or if there is something in the OBS output that PowerDirector is sensitive to or what. But the occurrences are seemingly random (eg, I can have 5 minutes or more of no clipping, then several within a minute or so of each other, then one here and there).

I am very puzzled and would be extremely grateful to anyone who can shed light on what might be going on. Thanks in advance for your time!
