I recently upgraded my entire setup and now have two monitors. The first is a 1440p/240Hz G-Sync monitor, and the other is 1080p/144Hz. I'm on the most recent build of Windows which apparently fixed any issues regarding running two monitors at different refresh rates. I also run OBS as admin by default and have Game Mode enabled. I have a 5600X, 3070 and 32 GB RAM, so my specs are all up to the job of recording at 1440p.
My main questions are about the three factors in the title as well as some other variables burning on my mind:
My main questions are about the three factors in the title as well as some other variables burning on my mind:
- Does having G-Sync enabled in any capacity cause frame pacing issues (regardless of frame rate)?
- I'm not sure if this could be the case considering how the monitor's refresh rate is variable as opposed to constant.
- Is VSync on + a capped FPS equivalent to VSync off + capped FPS for OBS' rendering and encoding purposes?
- If I always want to record at 60fps, is it necessary to cap my frame rate at a multiple of 60 (60/120/180/240) for smooth recordings?
- I'm assuming that there's no way for me to leave any games running at unlimited framerates without causing issues for OBS.
- What does the 'Limit capture framerate' option do under Game Capture? Should I enable it considering I'm running games at over 60fps?
- Would changing OBS to 'Max Performance' in Nvidia Control Panel make a difference?
- Does disabling the OBS video preview help considering it's another hardware accelerated source?
- Is encoding at Indistinguishable quality more demanding than the High quality preset? Or is storage space the only concern?
