PSA: If You Are Having Problems With Choppy Audio, Disable Windows 11 Audio Enhancements (ATEM Mini)

Hi, All,

Thanks so much to the developers of OBS, and the many generous users who contribute to this forum.

I just spent the afternoon trying to figure out why I was having problems with stuttering audio in OBS. I've used it with an ATEM mini for years, streaming into a Windows 10 laptop. I recently upgraded to a Windows 11 laptop for streaming, and was suddenly having problems.

I searched this forum using keywords like "interrupted audio," "stuttering," etc., to no avail.

Finally, I took a look at the Windows 11 mic settings. It turns out the microphone driver in Windows has "audio enhancements" enabled by default, which apparently includes serious noise cancellation and compression. Grr. Removing the "enhancements" solved the problem.

Folks have talked about this in other threads, but I just wanted to make sure everyone sees this with a title that matched the sort of search I was doing.

I was also having a bit of video glitching. I originally thought this was related. It wasn't - closing the ATEM control software cleared that up. (This didn't happen for me with an older laptop running WIndows 10.)
