Question / Help PS4 and PC with a Single Mic, Headset setup?

Not really an odd question but apparently one that is a little confusing.

Long story short. On my streaming channel I of course use headphones and a separate Mic to stream PC games. If I switch to PS4, I use a capture card to stream the video but I have to use the Avermedia preview Window to hear stuff. This is because I am still using my PC headphones, and of course the PS4 had no mic at this time.

Now I am aware I could fix the PS4 not having a mic easily enough buy just plugging in a USB mic, but that still means I have to listen through the Avermedia preview which sucks.

So what I am trying to do is be able to listen and speak to my stream, and also listen and speak to my PS4 with the SAME headset and mic if possible. If I have to use a second mic I can swing that but I need audio from my PS4 to my headphones. While hoping OBS capture the chat on PS4 as well.

I had a couple of ideas but they are not gelling. One idead was use my Audio Technical Studio headset which is XLR. I could attach an XLR splitter to the Headset. Run one splitter into my Audio Interface for my stream, and use a Blue Icicle on the second split to plug into the PS4. The PS4 should see the headset as a usb headset then. I didn't want to spend 50 bucks on an Icicle if this didn't work.

The other way I thought would be to run optical out from my PS4 to an Analog converter and plug that to an input on my Mixer, and use a second mic for the PS4. However, I don't know if game chat is transferred over optical and if OBS would be able to capture it.

Getting sound from the PS4 is not really as big of a problem. I think there are plenty of ways to do that, but getting chat and all that stuff with one paid of headphones may be hard. I could hook up tons of stuff and probably get the results I want, but really and truly I just want a simple one headphones setup that is neat and clean. It would be great to transition between PC and PS4 streaming seamlessly without cable swaps or anything.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

How I did it: http://imgur.com/LYGCVvA

Keep in mind I use a really powerful and flexible sound card (RME), and am a real-life (ex) TV Engineer (so this stuff is pretty straight forward for me), but there is the gist of it.

Holy smokes. You got some real hardware there... so it looks like you will always be forced to use a split no matter what you do. I really wanted a neat and clean setup, but it looks like that just isn't possible.

As to listening... well it depends if you want them on your stream or not.

If you do, then run the earphone output of the PS4 controller into the line in on the back of your computer. Then set the sound properties to 'listen to this device', and output it to... whatever it is you listen on.

If you want to hear them, but you don't want them on your stream (why?), then grab a VAC (Virtual Audio Cable), and route them through that to your headset, and not to OBS:

Thanks for the replies. So I may have figured out something. So I use optical out for audio on my PS4. I also use a pair of Astro A40s with a mixamp. The Astro Mixamp is plugged into my PC and acts as a USB headset for my PC. I took the optical from my PS4 to my Mixamp. This way I could hear everything, even chat, but it wouldn't record. So I changed my audio out put for chat to TV on the PS4 "via HDMI", and all of a sudden I still heard everything including chat, and my capture software would record chat too. This was surprising, as I didn't think this worked. Of course I have a blue yetti plugged into the PS4 as a mic.

Now I have had situations like this happen before. Where something that shouldn't work does for some strange reason. I'm not going to rely on this for a stream as it may decide to not work anymore, or a patch may fix it. So I will try wiring from the controller as stated

If you set the PS4 to output chat via HDMI, it does so. No magic or silliness about it. That's what's supposed to happen. I've done tests with that and it works... you just don't have much (if any) control over the volume levels, and you can't separate them for post-stream mixing.

If those aren't a concern, then go with the HDMI output.

I did a test recently with an Xbox One and it was easy as pie to record party chat with just a quick setting, but all my research online suggested that it was just a huge pain in the ass to do it on PS4. I just figured this was a glitch. Well if I can record party chat, can't I adjust the chat volume in the audio settings? I believe I remember seeing individual volume controls for things like chat on the console settings. If I can make the chat audio comfortable to begin with.. Hell I am good.
