Question / Help Processor speed vs RAM

Hello everyone :)

Apologies if this is a dumb question. Just specing a PC and I have a question. Bearing in mind I will be using the PC mostly for streaming XBox One games through OBS and very little PC gaming, is it best to go for more RAM or a faster CPU? To give a more specific question, I can go for a 4GHz processor with 16Gb RAM or a 3.4Ghz processor with 32Gb RAM. Which would be more suited to what I will be doing?

Cheers :)

More importantly is, which CPUs are we talking about? And generally 16GB of RAM will serve you just fine for anything you'll be doing in OBS, OBS doesn't really use much memory.

Thanks for your reply ColtaineCrows :)

Intel i7-6800K 3.40GHz (Broadwell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 Processor or Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor

The RAM clock is also important. I saw in the past that slow RAM cause bad frame timing, so the video look very unsmooth while not loosing frames. With Overclocking my RAM i could get rid of that.

Thank you everyone :)

I've decided to go with:

Intel i7-6850K 3.60GHz (Broadwell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 Processor
Team Group Elite 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C16 2400MHz Quad Channel Kit - Black (TPKD432GM2400HC16Q)
Zotac GeForce GTX 1060 Mini 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

And I've got the fine people at Overclockers building it :)

One final question, based on the above (and an upload speed of around 5Mb/s) what settings are recommended to get a good quality stream and recording?

If you're mainly using the PC for streaming, both specs you listed are already overkill.

That's not as simple.

For streaming, you need to follow the standards of the service you're using (twitch/youtube/etc)

For recording... I just read someone answering that, so I will link you to it

Overkill is under-rated lol

I have probably gone too far but I'd rather be safe than sorry; plus I have scope to expand if I need/want to. I'll check out that other thread :)

Cheers :)
