Question / Help problems with hotkeys

Hey there

I'm pretty new to OBS. I'm a teacher and because of Covid-19 I have to get some videos ready for school.

So, right now I'm pretty fine using the software, though one thing I can't figure out. I mostly do need 2 different scenes: 1. fullscreen FaceTime Camere 2. the whole desktop and a small camera window in the upper left corner.

When I have the OBS window open, it will be visible the whole time I demonstrate something on the desktop, so I want to minimise it and use hotkeys to switch between scenes. The problem is, that almost every key is already used up by the software I try to work with (and demonstrate). For example: I tried tried to set the scenes to 1 and 2 on the keyboard. But if I try to demonstrate a calculation in word or text edit, the scene will switch... Also, if i find a combination that has no function, macOS makes this sound effect for not having a command function for that key... How can I solve that?

Is it not possible to capture the wole desktop but just make the OBS window?

thanks for your help!

No. Desktop is the entire display. You can crop a display capture to a particular window, but if any window overlaps that window, that portion will also be captured.

To avoid existing key combos, add modifiers. (command, control, shift, or combinations of modifiers).

If the MacOS sound effects are a problem, either turn them off or send them to another device in your sound control panel so they don't get into your stream.
