Hello i have tried googling to find anything to help solve the problem but all i can find is nothing to do with what I search or from 2010 when it didnt exsit. Using Windows 10 and OBS studio I have been trying to record the Windows 10 version of minecraft not the JAVA first the WINDOWS 10 version. When i start recording in OBS it ether seems to record the menu then nothing past that point so will just record the menu for the whole time even while im playing the game. Or it will just stop recording then when switiching back to OBS it skips to that timeframe so from 1 to 25 secs for example.
  • I have tried on my pc and my mates pc both same problem
  • lowering the bitrate and highering it,
  • lowering the resolution
  • changing the source game, display, monitor, window capture not much change some work some dont like some go black and some just record menu
Yet if i play and record any other game it records absolutly fine but minecraft windows 10 doesnt.
Anyone know why, sorry if not best explaination only way i can think of.
also dont have a log from my mates pc or mine currently.
thanks

I believe only display capture is able to capture UWP apps right now. Are you using a laptop? That will be particularly limiting since everything will have to run on the integrated GPU for it to work correctly. Using the normal version and game capture would work better.

The Windows 10 edition of Minecraft is on the Universal Windows Platform (UWP), and therefore can only be recorded by using window capture in OBS. Game capture cannot capture UWP apps/games because of the way they run. They are not normal PC games, and nothing can be injected into them. That's how the game capture thing works. It basically injects something into the game that allows it to be captured.

Unfortunately, the only ways of capturing UWP apps/games right now in OBS are to use window capture or desktop capture, or use a HDMI capture card and capture it that way.

Blame Microsoft for this problem. They are the ones who want their PC games to be like this -.-

thanks for the reply oh right i did not know that, that would explain why it doesnt work with game capture. Is this also the reason to why it will only capture the menu even when i am playing the game. Ill try to use window capture again couldnt get that to work last time, but ill give it another go.
Thanks

will there ever be an update to allow minecraft windows 10 to be video recorded? i've been inspired by dantdm, the proper idiots, dumb and dumber and other such minecraft youtubers to post my own minecraft vids. it's been a recent dream of mine, and now it's been shot down. again. so unless anyone knows some alternative free, non trial version software for my laptop, i'm about ready to hide in a hole and cry for about an eternity. :'(

also, this alternative software absolutely MUST take up as little storage space as possible while recording.

Unlikely. This is not an unintended effect, but a conscious design choice, apparently.

well then, there goes yet another dream, because my laptop is crap, my desktop comp has no internet, and mojang minecraft never gets past the launch thing on my laptop. you sure you don't at least know any other free software with the preferred things i mentioned?

What prevents you from capturing Minecraft with the display capture source of OBS?
If you're seeing a black screen even with display capture, see here: https://obsproject.com/wiki/Laptop-Performance-Issues
dis thread be 2 years old boye

uhm dumb and dumber aren't minecraft youtubers lul

Just use Window Capture. I can record 720p60 flawlessly, and once I get my new GPU, 1080p120 flawlessly.

We are speaking about the recent new question by @RyoStonewell and about the problem that the UWP version of Minecraft cannot be captured with window capture or game capture. This is neither an obsolete nor a dumb question, but a quite current issue.

Game capture works currently under certain scenarios.
Window capture WILL NOT work on the windows store version of minecraft.
Windows Store (UWP) games currently require extra permissions to be able to capture. If OBS is installed in the default (C:\Program Files (x86)) directory, these will be applied automatically. If you installed OBS to a custom location, you will need to add the ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES security group to the obs-studio folder. Follow these steps:

  • Close OBS if it is already open
  • Right click on the obs-studio program folder, select properties, then click on the Security tab.
  • Under the Groups or user names section, click on Edit…
  • Click add, then type in ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES. Select Check Names and it should underline to show it was typed.
  • Click OK, then Apply, then OK, and finally OK again.
  • Restart OBS and attempt to capture the game again

what? I've used game capture for the game before on my old laptop. It does work.

hey, I also want to record Minecraft for windows 10 smoothly, but I tried lots of settings to run the recording smoothly but I didn't get any great results, but recently I edited some settings and tested the recording many times and now the results are great but it lags just sometimes, here are, some great resulting settings!

set your FPS around 30
set your bitrate above 3,000 KBPS (use advanced settings mode)
set your screen and output resolution to 720p or lower (it will reduce lag!)
set your game settings to lowest (fancy graphics to off, etc)
set some lag-free texture packs in-game so that you will get more FPS!

here are some best things you can do to finish 90% of the lag
bro!

I know this is an old thread, but I thought i'd post my solution here incase anyone else comes across this issue.

To get it to work I needed to set up a new game capture, then choose 'Capture foreground window with hotkey' from the dropdown menu. I then set a up hotkey for capturing the foreground (File > Settings > Hotkeys > Capture foreground window).
I then clicked onto my Minecraft game (fullscreen or windowed both work) then pressed my hotkey and it worked!

Hopefully this helps anyone else that comes across this issue.
