Problem with windows capture

What i would want to do is record a youtube video in full screen and alt tab to continue work on another chrome window. i would start recording and make the youtube video full screen, after which i would alt tab to another chrome window to do my work. The entire youtube video will be recorded without any issues in the past.

However, this does not work now. If i were to record the youtube video in full screen and alt tab to another chrome window, the recording will be as normal until i alt tab to the other chrome window, where it will end up recording a black screen.

The only solution i have now is to "allow obs to be the main program" and slightly minimize the other chrome windows, i would be able to record the video while doing my work on another chrome window and doing this would not cause any issue (attached as a picture). Is there anything i can do to solve this? Thanks in advance!

To download videos from Youtube, use youtube-dl. Not OBS Studio. Using OBS Studio for this is like filming a video with a camera from a screen. Using youtube-dl is like directly getting the original video.

hi sorry i wasn't clear, the youtube video was just an example. i was also using obs to record things like instagram lives, facebook lives, twitch streams and would like to continue to do so but i'm still not sure how to solve this issue

Despite its name, youtube-dl is an almost universal stream downloader for a large varity of sites. Give it the URL of a video, and it will probably get it. Including currently running live streams from the point you start the download.
