Hi - This is my first post here. I've been using OBS for close to a year and love it. There is one, on-going problem that I'm having though ... I've tried literally everything I can think of, watched hours of tutorials on YouTube that I thought might help and still - no joy in fixing this issue. I'm hoping that someone here, way smarter than me can point me in the right direction towards getting this fixed.
As background, I teach music lessons over Zoom and use OBS (along with a Streamdeck) to switch between cameras and give my students a better look at what's going on at different points in the lesson.
PART I - THE ORIGINAL SETUP AND PROBLEM. In my original setup I set up a bunch of sources and scenes in OBS and simply fed the virtual camera to Zoom. In the Zoom configuration, I had the OBS virtual camera set as my video source, my Rode mic set as my mic and my Speakers set as my speakers. Everything worked nicely with this setup with one exception.
When I'd hit 'Share Screen' in Zoom with the additional boxes for 'Share Audio' and 'Optimize for Video Clip' checked, anytime that I would then play a YouTube clip of a musical performance or simply play an MP3 file from my desktop, there would be a slow build up of white noise coming through my speakers that would get louder as the music progressed. My student didn't hear the white noise, it was just on my end. It got really loud but would stop as soon as I stopped playing the YouTube clip or MP3 file.
Since getting blasted with white noise wasn't much fun, I poked around and discovered the Audio Monitor Plugin and VB Audio Cables and contributed in order to get both an A & B cable. I set these up and got them working and happily ... no more white noise when I share my screen/ audio in Zoom. YAY! But now there is a new problem.
PART II - THE NEW PROBLEM. Over in Zoom, I now have "Cable B Input" set as my speaker and "Cable A Output" set as my mic. Back in OBS, I have the Audio Monitor plugin set up on my mic as a filter. In Settings under Global Audio Devices, I have "Cable B Input" set for "Desktop Audio" and my Speakers set for "Desktop Audio 2". All other devices are disabled. in "Advanced Audio Properties" I have everything that appears in the mixer set to "Monitor Off". So far, so good ... I can hear my students and they can hear me but now when I hit 'Share Screen' in Zoom with the additional boxes for 'Share Audio' and 'Optimize for Video Clip' checked, the audio plays with no white noise on either end but if I talk while the screen/audio is being shared, there is a pretty prominent echo on my voice that my students hear. As soon as I turn off screen/audio sharing, the echo goes away and everything is fine again.
It's probably worth mentioning that I teach for hours a day and so headphones aren't an option that I can comfortably live with. Still I don't have my mic coming back through the speakers, so I don't think that's the issue - especially since these problems only occur when I'm screen sharing in Zoom. I also don't have "Audio Output Capture" set as a source in any of my scenes and am wondering if because I'm not bringing audio back into each scene if that might be the problem.
SO ... WHAT AM I MISSING?? Any thoughts or suggestions you can offer that might help will be appreciated more than you can possibly imagine!! I've included a few screenshots here to further help and on the chance that it might be of some value, my latest log file can be found here https://obsproject.com/logs/fyQ_mplvDc-xhXX3
FINALLY ... Thank you so much for reading this novel and for whatever help/ guidance you're able to offer!!
