Question / Help Preview lags about 1FPS, but only most of the time...

I've been having a problem using OBS Studio since the first day I downloaded it. The video preview (which I keep on my second monitor) has about 1FPS. This happens a lot more than it doesn't happen, meaning only sometimes my preview will run smoothly. This seems to be a problem with all games, not just steam games. (I tried it with Guild Wars 2, and it was still lagging.) I've tried everything, like setting my output mode to advanced and such. I lower my video FPS value to about 30FPS and still no answer. My log file is https://gist.github.com/35f5b47fe59c48b8ab08ce4124af1c47
HELP!

PC Specs:
Intel Core i5-6400 Quad Core 2.7 GHz (3.3 GHz Turbo)
AMD Radeon RX 480 4GB

Code:
10:25:47.486: [x264 encoder: 'streaming_h264'] preset: fast

Put that back on veryfast, your PC is nowhere near powerful enough for fast.

Code:
10:26:17.708: [game-capture: 'Game Capture'] attempting to hook process: payday2_win32_release.exe
10:26:17.711: [game-capture: 'Game Capture'] using helper (compatibility hook)
10:26:20.742: Last log entry repeated for 515 more lines

Also, it looks like game capture can't hook the game, so you're resulting to using display capture? I would definitely advise against display capture for games, and at the very least, against mixing them in the same scene.

How would I be able to change the display capture to game capture then?

Would that be just getting rid of the 'Display Capture' source? I tried that, then on the preview nothing showed up. It was picking up the game audio and my voice, just not the main menu of the game I was on.

Actually, I have an update. I made one scene for my Display, and a different scene for my Game Capture and my Browser Source. The audio picks up when I use the second source, which would be my Game and Browser sources, but on the preview there is nothing to be seen. It's just all black whenever I use my second source to preview a game.

Yes, something is blocking game capture from working. Are you using any programs that provide an overlay in game (that isn't Steam)? Any shader mods with the games you're playing?

Would there be any way I can be able to check? Right off the bat, I can't think of anything.

I do have some Steam Tools for a different game and some addon mods for another game, but I don't see how those would be a problem.

Wish I was able to help more, but I can't think of much that would block Game Capture! :(

Is there a certain file location I should be looking at? Or even different applications? If so, some examples would help.

General troubleshooting for Game Capture would be to make sure you're running OBS as admin. Create a new, clean Scene Collection (from the Scene Collection menu at the top. Call it "test" or something similar), and add only a single Game Capture source. Then, try to capture your game (note that if you're playing fullscreen, the game won't capture until you're tabbed back in). Once that's done, and if it didn't work, then upload the current log (Help -> Log Files -> Upload Current Log) and share it here.

And when I made the new scene, I ran OBS as an administrator like you said. Probably should've mentioned that!

Yes, it's expected that it will clear everything in there previous out (the old scenes are stored, you can switch back by selecting the Scene Collection from the menu that isn't the new one you just created). The only other time I've seen this kind of issue is when the game is alt+tabbed but set to run fullscreen. If you don't tab in to the game, it's not being rendered, and OBS can't hook it.

Yea, I usually start OBS and then tab into my game. If not, I start my game, then start OBS, then tab back into my game and the preview just stays on a black screen no matter what.
