Pixelated Recordings

Hi,

no matter what kind of capture I use - game window or display - when ever a window or a folder or a file is opened or changed the recording is pixelated for a few moments after the change. This is especially annoying when recording MSFS2020.

I am unexperienced with OBS and searched the forum but didn't find a solution.

What is my mistake?

In this case you need to tell more about what exactly you mean with "pixelated". Please show screenshot comparisons between the original game and the pixelated version of the same scene from OBS, and show a logfile from a recording attempt that resulted in this pixelated content.

Don't use CBR for recording, specially if you set 2500kbps because this is the cause of the pixelation.

Always execute OBS with elevated permitions (admin)
Run the Auto-configuration Wizard, apply the settings it gives. Do not change anything. Restart OBS. Now test it as is. Keep it in simple output mode. You don't need anymore advanced mode if you have to record several audio channel.

It is strongly recommended to use mkv container for recoriding instead of mp4. You can remux it later if you need to.

Most of the time, I agree with you, but not with this one. Yes, it "makes things work" because Windoze's permission system is stupid, but it also leaves you open for crashes and other bugs to escalate *very* quickly beyond OBS itself! And if someone found a way to compromise OBS's code and you're running as admin, now your *entire system* is theirs for the taking.

Admin can be a way to see, temporarily, if that is indeed the problem, but don't just leave it there! Figure out how to still make it work *without* admin. Likewise for everything else you have.
