PC Lagging While Streaming and Recording – Need Help Optimizing OBS Settings

Hi everyone,

I’m encountering an issue while streaming and recording simultaneously on Twitch. My PC starts lagging during gameplay, and my recording file sizes are massive (~30GB/30 min.). I understand this is due to using CQP for recording, but I’m wondering if there’s an alternative method to maintain good quality without such large file sizes.

My Setup:

Streaming Details:

  • Platform: Twitch
  • OBS Encoding: NVENC
  • Recording Format: CQP

Issues:

  1. Significant lag while streaming and recording.
  2. Recording file sizes are too large (~30GB per session).

Questions:

  • What settings can I tweak to reduce lag while maintaining high streaming and recording quality?
  • Is there an alternative to CQP for recording that offers similar quality but smaller file sizes?
  • Are there GPU/CPU optimizations I should consider for my setup?
Any advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Set your monitors to 120 or 60 Hz, enable G-sync\V-sync. Cap your games at 120 or 60 FPS.

Multipass, Look-ahead and Adaptive Quantization all use additional GPU. Disable those.

If you are using H264 for recording, try H265 or AV1 encoders. More quality per bit.
