Question / Help Overwatch recording laggy when a lot of motion. [SOLVED]

Hi, I'm recording some Overwatch and I got the quality and fps to work very well. It looks very good, and I can play the game while recording without fps drops. But when I do a lot of motion, the footage lags/stutters, and I don't know why?

I mean, my computer setup should be able to handle it, but I guess Overwatch could be eating a lot of the CPU, as I see some "Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 1695 (17.8%)", and I guess that is kinda bad.

Here are the logs: https://pastebin.com/FRjdS8QN

Just recorded some footage, and the laggy spikes are still there, and I would love to get them away.

Frame lagged out this time n' stuff:
20:00:26.342: Output 'adv_file_output': Total encoded frames: 89291
20:00:26.342: Output 'adv_file_output': Total drawn frames: 89293
20:00:26.342: Output 'adv_file_output': Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 16763 (18.8%)

Damn. Your stream settings are really wacky, dude. But I assume you don't use OBS to stream at all?

Anyway, switch back to the default Direct3D renderer. That alone should fix your issue. The lagged frames are cause by your GPU not rendering them in time. Try it and report back if it's not enough.

As for your recording settings, since you seem to be using the advanced ffmpeg output, the exact settings don't show in the log. If you want some pointers there you will have to show them with a screenshot or type them out. :)

Looks like the Direct3D setting fixed it. And no, this profile is only for recording :P I have another one for streaming

Frames lagged out this time n' stuff:
17:11:35.623: Output 'adv_file_output': Total encoded frames: 13357

17:11:35.630: Video stopped, number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 4/13358 (0.0%)

Glad to hear it worked out.

Since you're still getting a tiny bit of lag with rendering the scene you could try to ease the burden on your GPU, like setting a lower fps limit in Overwatch, or enabling vsync, to give it some more headroom to work with OBS.

Good luck :)
