Recently happened with me. I thought i was recording and later I found out i just lost a 2hr's worth of footage. It would have been helpful if there was a overlay option to notify me if i was recording or streaming (just like nvidia does). I use single monitor, should that overlay would have been there i would have saved my 2hrs or in other case wouldn't have to alt tab every time to see if it's recording.
Just enable the overlay notification option and forget about it. In my opinion that's the only drawback of obs to not have that feature apart from being such a brilliant software.
