only getting a still image (first frame) from virtual camera

I'm running obs on fedora: obs-studio-28.1.2-3.fc37.x86_64 but I can't get video out of the obs virtual camera. Any player I've tried to open the obs video device with (ffplay, mplayer, vlc, webcamtests.com) just streams a still image (looks like the first frame it gets) and that's it.

I'm stuck and not sure why the virtual camera is acting this way?

I was compiling and using the "main" branch of v4l2loopback. After switching to the latest stable, it works.

Oh my, this helped me getting v4l2loopback and OBS working on Fedora 38. Struggled a lot thinking it was gphoto2 acting up but in the end the solution was not using the latest main branch but release tag v0.12.5
