Hi, need help please. great open software, thank you. i have windows 7 dell latitude. I went thru the auto config wizard. i have a video i want to record. i was able to get the window capture to come up on OBS 24.03. so the window i want to record is shown on the OBS. I click on start recording. looks like its working, audio mixer is working. video i want to record runs to end. i click stop recording. then go click on file-show recordings. i see a file, click on it. it plays 7 seconds of black screen. ideally, i would like to record a video of a couple hours. how can i resolve the the black 7 second file and actually record the video. i see how to copy a "diagnostic file" from OBS is there a codex i have to download ? what am i doing wrong ? what is the best video format to record in to conserve file space ?

When was the last time you did a windows update? You might be running into an issue with the broken QuickSync driver.

Try using x264 encoding instead as a test. If that works, then it's most likely you'll need to fix your QuickSync drivers.

Also, make sure you're playing back your recording using VLC -- if that doesn't play it, then there's a problem with the recording itself.

None that I've ever encountered. 15+ hour streams, no problems ever on the recording side. Just as long as you have disk space available, which OBS will give a warning about if you're reaching drive capacity.
