OK newbie here

I'm attempting to transfer my Hi8mm Sony tapes to digital. I am going S-Video to a video capture device with S, composite and audio l / r cables into USB using Windows 11. I can hear the audio in OBS but when I hit the record icon I can hear the dialog but no video.

Any suggestions for this newbie?

1. use S-Video or composite... not both.. pick one, with S-Video typically being higher resolution (but it depends)

2. original video was interlaced. modern video and computers use Progressive (not Interlaced) video
does your capture device convert properly from Interlaced to Progressive?

OBS Studio is a powerful, complex application... I recommend basic troubleshooting on Sources like this to start at Operating System level. Use Windows Recorder or similar and make sure you can see (and hear) video properly.

In OBS Studio Preview window you should see and hear video... if you don't, you need to fix that, as what you see/hear is what you will record (in general)
