Question / Help Obscure overwatch lag/stuttering (need a magician to solve this)

Hi everyone,

I don't often have issues with streaming but when I do they're very obscure. This issue has been going on for 5-6 months, prior to that streaming overwatch was flawless.

Basically I get really weird stuttering frames, laggy frames i guess. However, it only occurs when i'm streaming overwatch. Any other game is perfectly fine.

Here is a short 30s-1m log file https://gist.github.com/anonymous/c78357c078bad7c48cefa206d52a35b7

List of things i've tried:

-Full Screen(game capture)/full screen windowed(window capture)
-Adjusted my bitrate from 1500-3500
-Lowered keyframe interval to 0s (back to 2 now)
-30/60 FPS
-1080p with downscale/without downscale and 720p
-Classic vs Studio as mentioned
-Process priority on OBS high (normally normal)
-VBR/CBR
-veryfast/ultra fast

I should mention my CPU is overclocked to either 4.5 or 4.7. It runs without issues and does not overheat due to H100i. I've also tried removing the overclock and that made no change.

Here is a few hours of what it looks/feels like with me streaming it. I had a temporary solution a few months ago, and that was to use OBS classic. However even OBS classic lags now and i'm out of ideas. Any solutions would be appreciated.

First:

Code:
21:07:38.696: rate_control: VBR

No. Put that back on CBR for streaming.

Second:

Code:
21:09:48.505: Output 'adv_stream': Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 1349 (34.6%)

You're overloading your GPU, Cap FPS in Overwatch or turn settings down.

Did you turn off Dynamic Shadows in Overwatch? That has been known to cause stuttering/drops in OBS' fps.

Also looks like OBS isn't able to grab the frames directly from the GPU, which is hurting performance...And that causes the "Output 'adv_stream': Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 1349 (34.6%)" from your log.

@ Fenrir

-Will set back to CBR.

-settings are already on low, what is a good number to cap frames at?

@c3rc3
Anything related to shadows is off or extremely low

Would 200 be too high?

I'm on a 144 hz monitor so I assume I don't want to go below that.

Sorry, that's Dynamic Reflections, not Dynamic Shadows.

Turning that off won't fix your memory copy issue though, but at least it'll (greatly?) lessen the load on your GPU.

Yeah i have that disabled as well.

Trying to figure out what to limit FPS at since I have a 144 hz monitor

Post a screenshot of gpu-z please.

Your video card is running in x4. It should be running in x16.

What pci-e slot is it installed in?

You've got it in the wrong slot based on your screenshot. It needs to be in the primary x16 slot.

So i just moved it to the only other available slot and it is now running at x8, will this be sufficient?

Probably not, although things should improve.

You'll likely need to move devices around to get that card into the primary x16 slot, and it is STRONGLY recommended you do so.

x4 2.0 to x8 3.0 should be a significant boost, but you will want to have it running at x16 to really ensure it isn't bottlenecked.

Never mind, found it. Pain in the ass to install because it's basically crushing my sata ports. but i'll give it a try and report back in a few minutes.
