Question / Help OBS won't launch, and says it is already running

Up until a little while ago a had almost no problems with obs other than lag, which i fixed by adjusting settings. Today though, i was test recording a video, and i closed obs, but when i opened it back up, it said it was already running. I clicked cancel and tried again.the message showed up again so i clicked launch anyway. I waited a bit but nothing happened. I went to check the task manager, and saw that it was running as a background process. I tried to end the task and then open it back up a couple times, but it didn't work. Whenever i open OBS it will open as a background process, but the actual program won't open. Once it is open as a background process it says it is already running, which it kinda is, but even if i click launch anyway, it will just run twice in the background. Any help would be appreciated!

Are you using an Elgato device? There is a known issue with their drivers that can cause this.

I have the solution for your problem

1. Right-click on the OBS desktop icons
2. Click on Handling Compatibility Issues
3. test program
4. If it succeeds then click below on continue
5. Yes, save this setting for the program
6. Have fun with OBS

It's generally a bad idea (and also unnecessary) to enable compatibility shims for OBS.

I have the exact same problem and can’t find a solution? Any tips or fixes? Been going insane the past 24 hours. I record with an el gato as well. Any help would be amazing!!!!
